We Can Strengthen Connecticut's Economic Security for All Families (January 2008)

This fact sheet outlines economic security issues as they affect Connecticut families, including housing, wages, pay equity, and family assets. Connecticut workers (except those with the very highest incomes) have lost ground in recent years. From 2001 (the start of the national recession) to 2006, Connecticut's lowest wage earners suffered reductions in their inflation-adjusted wages. Median and higher wage earners experienced increasing wages until 2003, but they too have had declining wages every year since. The fact sheet suggests some investments in the human capital of the state, including an overhaul of the state's economic development policies so that tax incentives and economic development subsidies are subject to rigorous review, increasing subsidies for high-quality child care, and putting more resources into affordable and supportive housing.
