Uninsured Children in Connecticut: 2006

Mary Alice Lee, Ph.D.

The US Census Bureau estimates that 49,000 Connecticut children under 18 were uninsured for the entire year in 2006, or 6.0% of all Connecticut children. An estimated 29,000 Connecticut children under 19 who lived in families with income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL) were uninsured. Virtually all these children are income-eligible for coverage in the HUSKY Program. Children in the United States were more likely to be uninsured if they were 12 to 17 years old, Hispanic, or living in poverty. (February 2008)
